As a new technology in the field of remote sensing, hyperspectral remote sensing has been widely used in land classification, mineral exploration, environmental monitoring, and other areas. In recent years, deep learning has achieved outstanding results in hyperspectral image classification tasks. However, problems such as low classification accuracy for small sample classes in unbalanced datasets and lack of robustness of the models usually lead to unstable classification performance of hyperspectral images. Therefore, from the perspective of feature optimization, we propose an improved hybrid convolutional neural network for hyperspectral image feature extraction and classification. Different from the current simple multi-scale feature extraction, we first optimize the features of each scale, and then perform multi-scale feature fusion. To this end, we use 3D dilated convolution to design a multi-level feature extraction block (MFB), which can be used to extract features with different correlation strengths at a fixed scale. Then, we construct a spatial multi-scale interactive attention (SMIA) module in the spatial feature enhancement phase, which can refine the multi-scale features through the attention weights of multi-scale feature interaction, and further improve the quality of spatial features. Finally, experiments were performed on different datasets, including balanced and unbalanced samples. The results show that the proposed model is more accurate and the extracted features are more robust.

Agricultural Jiaosu (AJ) is a method of recycling agricultural wastes for improving soil properties, promoting plant growth, and enhancing plant stress resistance. However, the underlying mechanism by which AJ improves plant stress resistance needs to be determined. Therefore, in this study, two treatments of AJ spraying and water spraying were set up to determine the enzyme activities related to the stress resistance of pak choi after 30 days of growth, and the potential mechanism of AJ’s influence on the stress resistance of pak choi was revealed by transcriptome, metabolome, and rhizome microbiome analyses. Microbial community analysis revealed that the application of AJ does not alter microbial abundance in the rhizosphere; however, it can improve microbial diversity and enrich Actinobacteriota, Proteobacteria, and Firmicutes in the pak choi rhizosphere. Metabolomic analysis revealed that these phyla were significantly positively correlated, with highly upregulated metabolites. Our findings suggest that AJ recruits beneficial microorganisms (BMs) in the rhizosphere and stimulates the expression of genes and metabolites involved in phenylpropanoid and glucosinolate biosynthesis, as well as glutathione and alpha-linolenic acid metabolism pathways. The use of AJ could considerably minimise the use of pesticides and fertilisers and improve the quality of the ecological environment.

Abstract Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has a poor prognosis and frequently relapses early compared with other subtypes. The Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) is a promising therapy for prognostically poor breast cancer such as TNBC. The Canady Helios Cold Plasma (CHCP) induces cell death in the TNBC cell line without thermal damage, however, the mechanism of cell death by CAP treatment is ambiguous and the mechanism of resistance to cell death in some subset of cells has not been addressed. We investigate the expression profile of 48 apoptotic and 35 oxidative gene markers after CHCP treatment in six different types of breast cancer cell lines including luminal A (ER+ PR+/−HER2−), luminal B (ER+PR+/−HER2+), (ER−PR−HER2+), basal-like: ER−PR−HER2− cells were tested with CHCP at different power settings and at 4 different incubation time. The finned-tube heat exchanger is the core part of an air conditioning system. Its heat exchange performance directly affects the energy consumption and efficiency of the air conditioner. The shortage and rising price of copper have led to increasing replacement of copper tubes with aluminum tubes in finned-tube heat exchangers. This paper studies two kinds of such heat exchangers, one consisting of copper tubes and aluminum fins and the other consisting of aluminum tubes and aluminum fins. The influences of the different base tube materials on heat transfer are compared and analyzed in terms of heat transfer strength and cost per unit heat transfer. The results show that the heat transfer and heat transfer coefficient increase with increasing inlet wind speed. Under different inlet wind speeds, the heat transfer and heat transfer coefficient of the finned-tube heat exchanger with aluminum tubes are 4%–12% and 7%%–9% lower than those of an identically structured heat exchanger with copper tubes, respectively. The aluminum-aluminum exchanger achieves 67% higher heat transfer than that of the copper-aluminum exchanger at only 8% of the cost. These results are significant for guiding the development and application of finned-tube heat exchangers.

Quantifying the effects of alpine GMB (Glacier Mass Balance) on river runoff is an important content of climate change. Uncertainty exists in GMB monitoring when applying remote-sensing technology. There are several reasons for these uncertainties, such as terrain deviation co-registration among different topographic data, the mismatch between GSE (Glacier Surface Elevation) from satellite monitoring and the GMB that comprises the physical glacier properties, the driving factors of GMB, and the response patterns of the runoff within the basin. This paper proposed a method based on the ridge line co-registration of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models), and the Tailan River basin, which is a typical glacier melt runoff recharge basin located in the southern Tianshan Mountains, was selected. Abnormal values in GSE changes were removed using ice thickness data, and the GSE results were optimized based on the regularity of the GSE change with altitude to estimate the GMB. The driving factors of the GMB and the response characteristics of the runoff in the basin were also explored. The results showed that the accuracy of the optimized GSE results across different periods has improved by more than 25%. The mean annual thinning value of GSE in the basin from 2000 to 2022 was −0.25 ± 0.02 m·a−1, corresponding to a GMB value of −0.30 ± 0.02 m w.e.a−1, indicating a consistent GMB loss state. Combined with climate data, the glaciers in the basin were impacted by rising temperatures, and the smallest increase in annual precipitation in the basin was insufficient to compensate for the GMB loss. Moreover, in the past 22 years, glacier meltwater accounts for 46.15% of the total runoff in the Tailan River basin.

Local regional recurrence (LRR) remains the primary cause of treatment failure in solid tumors despite advancements in cancer therapies. Canady Helios Cold Plasma (CHCP) is a novel Cold Atmospheric Plasma device that generates an Electromagnetic Field and Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species to induce cancer cell death. In the first FDA-approved Phase I trial (March 2020–April 2021), 20 patients with stage IV or recurrent solid tumors underwent surgical resection combined with intra-operative CHCP treatment. Safety was the primary endpoint; secondary endpoints were non-LRR, survival, cancer cell death, and the preservation of surrounding healthy tissue. CHCP did not impact intraoperative physiological data (p > 0.05) or cause any related adverse events. Overall response rates at 26 months for R0 and R0 with microscopic positive margin (R0-MPM) patients were 69% (95% CI, 19–40%) and 100% (95% CI, 100–100.0%), respectively. Survival rates for R0 (n = 7), R0-MPM (n = 5), R1 (n = 6), and R2 (n = 2) patients at 28 months were 86%, 40%, 67%, and 0%, respectively. The cumulative overall survival rate was 24% at 31 months (n = 20, 95% CI, 5.3–100.0). CHCP treatment combined with surgery is safe, selective towards cancer, and demonstrates exceptional LRR control in R0 and R0-MPM patients. (Clinical Trials identifier: NCT04267575).

Abstract Background The node of the first fruiting branch (NFFB) is an important precocious trait in cotton. Many studies have been conducted on the localization of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and genes related to fiber quality and yield, but there has been little attention to traits related to early maturity, especially the NFFB, in cotton. Results To identify the QTL associated with the NFFB in cotton, a BC4F2 population comprising 278 individual plants was constructed. The parents and two DNA bulks for high and low NFFB were whole genome sequenced, and 243.8 Gb of clean nucleotide data were generated. A total of 449,302 polymorphic SNPs and 135,353 Indels between two bulks were identified for QTL-seq. Seventeen QTLs were detected and localized on 11 chromosomes in the cotton genome, among which two QTLs (qNFFB-Dt2–1 and qNFFB-Dt3–3) were located in hotspots. Two candidate genes (GhAPL and GhHDA5) related to the NFFB were identified using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) experiments in this study. Both genes exhibited higher expression levels in the early-maturing cotton material RIL182 during flower bud differentiation, and the silencing of GhAPL and GhHDA5 delayed the flowering time and increased the NFFB compared to those of VA plants in cotton. Conclusions Our study preliminarily found that GhAPL and GhHDA5 are related to the early maturity in cotton. The findings provide a basis for the further functional verification of candidate genes related to the NFFB and contribute to the study of early maturity in cotton.

Abstract Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare biliary tract cancer with a low five-year survival rate and high recurrence rate after surgical resection. Currently treatment approaches include systemic chemotherapeutics such as FOLFIRINOX, a chemotherapy regimen is a possible treatment for severe CCA cases. A limitation of this chemotherapy regimen is its toxicity to patients and adverse events. There exists a need for therapies to alleviate the toxicity of a FOLFIRINOX regimen while enhancing or not altering its anticancer properties. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a technology with a promising future as a selective cancer treatment. It is critical to know the potential interactions between CAP and adjuvant chemotherapeutics. In this study the aim is to characterize the efficacy of FOLFIRINOX and CAP in combination to understand potential synergetic effect on CCA cells. FOLFIRINOX treatment alone at the highest dose tested (53.8 µM fluorouracil, 13.7 µM Leucovorin, 5.1 µM Irinotecan, and 3.7 µM Oxaliplatin) reduced CCA cell viability to below 20% while CAP treatment alone for 7 min reduced viability to 3% (p

Root rot caused by the pathogenic fungi of the Fusarium genus poses a great threat to the yield and quality of medicinal plants. The application of Agricultural Jiaosu (AJ), which contains beneficial microbes and metabolites, represents a promising disease control strategy. However, the action-effect of AJ on Fusarium root rot disease remains unclear. In the present study, we evaluated the characteristics and antifungal activity of AJ fermented using waste leaves and stems of medicinal plants, and elucidated the mechanisms of AJ action by quantitative real-time PCR and redundancy analysis. The effects of AJ and antagonistic microbes isolated from it on disease suppression were further validated through a pot experiment. Our results indicate that the AJ was rich in beneficial microorganisms (Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Lactobacillus), organic acids (acetic, formic, and butyric acids) and volatile organic compounds (alcohols and esters). It could effectively inhibit Fusarium oxysporum and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 13.64%. The antifungal contribution rate of the microbial components of AJ reached 46.48%. Notably, the redundancy analysis revealed that the Bacillus and Pseudomonas genera occupied the main niche during the whole inhibition process. Moreover, the abundance of the Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Lactobacillus genera were positively correlated with the pH-value, lactic, formic and butyric acids. The results showed that the combined effects of beneficial microbes and organic acid metabolites increased the efficacy of the AJ antifungal activity. The isolation and identification of AJ’s antagonistic microbes detected 47 isolates that exhibited antagonistic activities against F. oxysporum in vitro. In particular, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus velezensis presented the strongest antifungal activity. In the pot experiment, the application of AJ and these two Bacillus species significantly reduced the disease incidence of Fusarium root rot and promoted the growth of Astragalus. The present study provides a cost-effective method to control of Fusarium root rot disease, and establishes a whole-plant recycling pattern to promote the sustainable development of medicinal plant cultivation.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are a rare and highly heterogeneous group of solid tumors, originating from various types of connective tissue. Complete removal of STS by surgery is challenging due to the anatomical location of the tumor, which results in tumor recurrence. Additionally, current polychemotherapeutic regimens are highly toxic with no rational survival benefit. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a novel technology that has demonstrated immense cancer therapeutic potential. Canady Cold Helios Plasma (CHCP) is a device that sprays CAP along the surgical margins to eradicate residual cancer cells after tumor resection. This preliminary study was conducted in vitro prior to in vivo testing in a humanitarian compassionate use case study and an FDA-approved phase 1 clinical trial (IDE G190165). In this study, the authors evaluate the efficacy of CHCP across multiple STS cell lines. CHCP treatment reduced the viability of four different STS cell lines (i.e., fibrosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and liposarcoma) in a dose-dependent manner by inhibiting proliferation, disrupting cell cycle, and inducing apoptosis-like cell death.

Abstract Surfactant flooding could be used to improve water flooding in fractured reservoirs due to the main mechanisms of wettability alteration and interfacial tension reduction. However, the surfactant flooding in fractured reservoir is not well studied. And there still exist some disputes like surfactant injection rate, surfactant application timing and surfactant injection size. The objective of this work is to study the effects of those parameters on surfactant oil recovery. A spontaneous imbibition model is established based on spontaneous imbibition experiments to verify the properties of rock, brine, oil and surfactant that would be used in the study of surfactant flooding. The spontaneous imbibition model is cut into two parts to create a vertical fracture in the middle. Then the fractured matrix is used as the model in the study of surfactant flooding. The simulation results show that considering the time cost and surfactant consumption, the surfactant injection rate of 0.027 cm3/h (i.e., 0.001 PV/h) is a proper injection rate for the base case, since the oil recovery rate is the same for the injection rate that is higher than 0.027 cm3/h, and the oil recovery is up to 90% ultimate oil recovery after injecting 2 PV surfactant solution. The analysis of surfactant diffusion and fracture porosity effects on surfactant oil recovery indicates that the surfactant diffusion is a key parameter to facilitate the movement of surfactant into the matrix. The injection rate has larger effect in the system with smaller fracture porosity. When the injection rate is higher than 0.53 cm3/h, the ultimate oil recovery is larger in the system with fracture porosity of 0.1% than the system with fracture porosity of 0.5%. In general, the earlier injection of surfactant results in a better result. For the base case, the surfactant flooding time and the required surfactant volume are smaller for the earlier application of surfactant. If the surfactant diffusion is negligible, the early injection of surfactant could increase the ultimate oil recovery. The maximum oil recovery is obtained after injecting 1.3 PV surfactant solution with the concentration of 0.01 g/cm3. But for the lower surfactant concentration, it needs more surfactant solution. Furthermore, the surfactant efficiency is reduced because less surfactant is imbibed into the matrix. So under the condition of injection safety, higher surfactant concentration should be applied. This work not only studied the injection rate effect on oil recovery, it also analysed the effect of surfactant diffusion and fracture properties on the choice of injection rate. In addition, this work explained why the surfactant should be applied before water flooding and whether surfactant application is feasible after completed water flooding. At the end, the surfactant slug size effect on oil recovery and how it is affected by the surfactant concentration are discussed.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has become a promising tool for modern medicine. With its recent applications in oncology, regenerative medicine, and immunotherapy, CAP can be used for a myriad of different clinical treatments. When using CAP specifically for the treatment of tumors, it is known to elicit an oxidative response within malignant cancer cells, inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In this study, data of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), caspase activity, Ki-67 expression, and cell cycle activity in the G1 phase were acquired to determine the causal relationships these intermediates have with cell proliferation and death after Canady Helios Cold Plasma (CHCP) treatment. The data were derived from four different subtypes of breast cancer cell lines: BT-474, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and SK-BR-3. Data transformation techniques were conducted on the time-series data for the input into the causal model code. The models were created on the basis of Granger causality principles. Our results demonstrated that there was a Granger causal relationship among all potentially causal variables (ROS, caspase, Ki-67, and G1 activity) and cell proliferation after 5 min CHCP treatment; however, not all variables were causal for the 3 min models. This same pattern did not exist for cell death models, which tested all potentially causal variables (ROS, Ki-67, and G1 activity) vs. caspase activity. All models were validated through a variety of statistical tests and forecasting accuracy metrics. A pseudo data set with defined causal links was also created to test R’s ability in picking up known causal relationships. These models, while nonexhaustive, elucidated the effects cold plasma has on cell activity regulators. Research in causal modeling is needed to help verify the exact mechanism of cold plasma for the ultimate optimization of its application in the treatment of cancers.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. Its molecular receptor marker status and mutational subtypes complicate clinical therapies. Cold atmospheric plasma is a promising adjuvant therapy to selectively combat many cancers, including breast cancer, but not normal tissue; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. Here, four breast cancer cell lines with different marker status were treated with Canady Helios Cold Plasma™ (CHCP) at various dosages and their differential progress of apoptosis was monitored. Inhibition of cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis, and disruption of the cell cycle were observed. At least 16 histone mRNA types were oxidized and degraded immediately after CHCP treatment by 8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG) modification. The expression of DNA damage response genes was up-regulated 12 h post-treatment, indicating that 8-oxoG modification and degradation of histone mRNA during the early S phase of the cell cycle, rather than DNA damage, is the primary cause of cancer cell death induced by CHCP. Our report demonstrates for the first time that CHCP effectively induces cell death in breast cancer regardless of subtyping, through histone mRNA oxidation and degradation during the early S phase of the cell cycle.

Human activities generate diverse and sophisticated functional areas and may impact the existing planning of functional areas. Understanding the relationship between human activities and functional areas is key to identifying the real-time urban functional areas based on trajectories. Few previous studies have analyzed the interactive information on humans and regions for functional area identification. The relationship between human activities and residential areas is the most representative for urban functional areas because residential areas cover a wide range and are closely connected with human life. The aim of this paper is to propose the CARA (Commuting Activity and Residential Area) model to quantify the correlation between human activities and urban residential areas. In this model, human activities are represented by hot spots extracted by the Gaussian Mixture Model algorithm while residential areas are represented by POI (point of interest) data. The model shows that human activities and residential areas present a logarithmic relationship. The CARA model is further assessed by retrieving urban residential areas in Tengzhou City from shared e-bike trajectories. Compared with the actual map, the accuracy reaches 83.3%, thus demonstrating the model’s reliability and feasibility. This study provides a new method for functional areas identification based on trajectory data, which is helpful for formulating the urban people-oriented policies.

ABSTRACTThe Medium Resolution Spectral Image (MERSI) is a MODIS-like sensor aboard Fengyun-3 satellite. The first version of MERSI aerosol algorithm has been developed based on MODIS dark target (DT) algorithm, with modified models for estimating surface reflectance and an adjusted inland water masking method to release haze aerosols. This study applies MERSI DT algorithm to the global observations from the upgraded MERSI sensor (MERSI-II) on Fengyun-3D. And then, the Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) results from the year of 2019–2020 are validated against the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) data. In addition, analyses of the spatial distribution and error characteristics of MODIS and MERSI-II retrievals are presented. The overall validation demonstrates that MERSI-II retrievals perform well globally, with a correlation coefficient of 0.877 and 67.1% of matchups within the Expected Error envelope of ± (0.05 + 0.2τ), which are close to the statistic metrics of MODIS products. In addition, MERSI-II and MODIS AODs exhibit similar error trends and error dependence. Moreover, the similar global distribution characteristics of the two AODs are revealed in the retrieval performance at site and regional scales, as well as in the analysis of monthly averages. These findings indicate the success of the ported MERSI algorithm.

The atomic force microscope (AFM) is broadly used to study the morphology of cells. The morphological characteristics and differences of the cell membrane between normal human astrocytes and glial tumor cells are not well explored. Following treatment with cold atmospheric plasma, evaluation of the selective effect of plasma on cell viability of tumor cells is poorly understood and requires further evaluation. Using AFM we imaged morphology of glial cells before and after cold atmospheric plasma treatment. To look more closely at the effect of plasma on cell membrane, high resolution imaging was used. We report the differences between normal human astrocytes and human glioblastoma cells by considering the membrane surface details. Our data, obtained for the first time on these cells using atomic force microscopy, argue for an architectural feature on the cell membrane, i.e. brush layers, different in normal human astrocytes as compared to glioblastoma cells. The brush layer disappears from the cell membrane surface of normal E6/E7 cells and is maintained in the glioblastoma U87 cells after plasma treatment.

ObjectiveCold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has recently been shown to selectively target cancer cells with minimal effects on normal cells. We systematically assessed the effects of CAP in the treatment of glioblastoma.MethodsThree glioma cell lines, normal astrocytes, and endothelial cell lines were treated with CAP. The effects of CAP were then characterized for viability, cytotoxicity/apoptosis, and cell cycle effects. Statistical significance was determined with student's t-test.ResultsCAP treatment decreases viability of glioma cells in a dose dependent manner, with the ID50 between 90-120 seconds for all glioma cell lines. Treatment with CAP for more than 120 seconds resulted in viability less than 35% at 24-hours posttreatment, with a steady decline to less than 20% at 72-hours. In contrast, the effect of CAP on the viability of NHA and HUVEC was minimal, and importantly not significant at 90 to 120 seconds, with up to 85% of the cells remained viable at 72-hours post-treatment. CAP treatment produces both cytotoxic and apoptotic effects with some variability between cell lines. CAP treatment resulted in a G2/M-phase cell cycle pause in all three cell lines.ConclusionsThis preliminary study determined a multi-focal effect of CAP on glioma cells in vitro, which was not observed in the non-tumor cell lines. The decreased viability depended on the treatment duration and cell line, but overall was explained by the induction of cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and G2/M pause. Future studies will aim at further characterization with more complex pre-clinical models.

Articular cartilage is prone to degeneration and possesses extremely poor self-healing capacity due to inherent low cell density and the absence of a vasculature network. Tissue engineered cartilage scaffolds show promise for cartilage repair. However, there still remains a lack of ideal biomimetic tissue scaffolds which effectively stimulate cartilage regeneration with appropriate functional properties. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop a novel biomimetic and bioactive electrospun cartilage substitute by integrating cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment with sustained growth factor delivery microspheres. Specifically, CAP was applied to a poly(ε-caprolactone) electrospun scaffold with homogeneously distributed bioactive factors (transforming growth factor-β1 and bovine serum albumin) loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid microspheres. We have shown that CAP treatment renders electrospun scaffolds more hydrophilic thus facilitating vitronectin adsorption. More importantly, our results demonstrate, for the first time, CAP and microspheres can synergistically enhance stem cell growth as well as improve chondrogenic differentiation of human marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (such as increased glycosaminoglycan, type II collagen, and total collagen production). Furthermore, CAP can substantially enhance 3D cell infiltration (over two-fold increase in infiltration depth after 1 day of culture) in the scaffolds. By integrating CAP, sustained bioactive factor loaded microspheres, and electrospinning, we have fabricated a promising bioactive scaffold for cartilage regeneration.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment is a rapidly expanding and emerging technology for cancer treatment. Direct CAP jet irradiation is limited to the skin and it can also be invoked as a supplement therapy during surgery as it only causes cell death in the upper three to five cell layers. However, the current cannulas from which the plasma emanates are too large for intracranial applications. To enhance efficiency and expand the applicability of the CAP method for brain tumors and reduce the gas flow rate and size of the plasma jet, a novel micro-sized CAP device (µCAP) was developed and employed to target glioblastoma tumors in the murine brain. Various plasma diagnostic techniques were applied to evaluate the physics of helium µCAP such as electron density, discharge voltage, and optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The direct and indirect effects of µCAP on glioblastoma (U87MG-RedFluc) cancer cells were investigated in vitro. The results indicate that µCAP generates short- and long-lived species and radicals (i.e., hydroxyl radical (OH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and nitrite (NO2−), etc.) with increasing tumor cell death in a dose-dependent manner. Translation of these findings to an in vivo setting demonstrates that intracranial µCAP is effective at preventing glioblastoma tumor growth in the mouse brain. The µCAP device can be safely used in mice, resulting in suppression of tumor growth. These initial observations establish the µCAP device as a potentially useful ablative therapy tool in the treatment of glioblastoma.

High-intensity coal mining (large mining height, shallow mining depth, and rapid advancing) frequently causes large-scale ground damage within a short period of time. Understanding mining subsidence under high-intensity mining can provide a basis for mining-induced damage assessment, land remediation in a subsidence area, and ecological reconstruction in vulnerable ecological regions in Western China. In this study, the mining subsidence status of Shendong Coalfield was investigated and analyzed using two-pass differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) technology based on high-resolution synthetic aperture radar data (RADARSAT-2 precise orbit, multilook fine, 5 m) collected from 20 January 2012 to June 2013. Surface damages in Shendong Coalfield over a period of 504 days under open-pit mining and underground mining were observed. Ground deformation of the high-intensity mining working faces 22201-1/2 in Bu’ertai Mine, Shendong Coalfield was monitored using small baseline subset (SBAS) InSAR technology. (1) DInSAR detected and located 85 ground deformation areas (including ground deformations associated with past-mining activity). The extent of subsidence in Shendong Coalfield presented a progressive increase at an average monthly rate of 13.09 km2 from the initial 54.98 km2 to 225.20 km2, approximately, which accounted for 7% of the total area of Shendong Coalfield; (2) SBAS-InSAR reported that the maximum cumulative subsidence area reached 5.58 km2 above the working faces 22201-1/2. The advance speed of ground destruction (7.9 m/day) was nearly equal to that of underground mining (8.1 m/day).

Previous research in cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and cancer cell interaction has repeatedly proven that the cold plasma induced cell death. It is postulated that the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) play a major role in the CAP cancer therapy. In this paper, we seek to determine a mechanism of CAP therapy on glioblastoma cells (U87) through an understanding of the composition of the plasma, including treatment time, voltage, flow-rate and plasma-gas composition. In order to determine the threshold of plasma treatment on U87, normal human astrocytes (E6/E7) were used as the comparison cell line. Our data showed that the 30 sec plasma treatment caused 3-fold cell death in the U87 cells compared to the E6/E7 cells. All the other compositions of cold plasma were performed based on this result: plasma treatment time was maintained at 30 s per well while other plasma characteristics such as voltage, flow rate of source gas, and composition of source gas were changed one at a time to vary the intensity of the reactive species composition in the plasma jet, which may finally have various effect on cells reflected by cell viability. We defined a term "plasma dosage" to summarize the relationship of all the characteristics and cell viability.

Traditional breast cancer treatments such as surgery and radiotherapy contain many inherent limitations with regards to incomplete and nonselective tumor ablation. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is an ionized gas where the ion temperature is close to room temperature. It contains electrons, charged particles, radicals, various excited molecules, UV photons and transient electric fields. These various compositional elements have the potential to either enhance and promote cellular activity, or disrupt and destroy them. In particular, based on this unique composition, CAP could offer a minimally-invasive surgical approach allowing for specific cancer cell or tumor tissue removal without influencing healthy cells. Thus, the objective of this research is to investigate a novel CAP-based therapy for selectively bone metastatic breast cancer treatment. For this purpose, human metastatic breast cancer (BrCa) cells and bone marrow derived human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were separately treated with CAP, and behavioral changes were evaluated after 1, 3, and 5 days of culture. With different treatment times, different BrCa and MSC cell responses were observed. Our results showed that BrCa cells were more sensitive to these CAP treatments than MSCs under plasma dose conditions tested. It demonstrated that CAP can selectively ablate metastatic BrCa cells in vitro without damaging healthy MSCs at the metastatic bone site. In addition, our study showed that CAP treatment can significantly inhibit the migration and invasion of BrCa cells. The results suggest the great potential of CAP for breast cancer therapy.
